Free Tree Giveaways in Brooklyn

Spring has sprung in New York, and to welcome the warm spring weather – a season known for growth and the return of nature after a long freeze – the New York Restoration Project, with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, is giving away trees to Brooklyn residents as a part of its MillionTreesNYC project.

The project, which was started as one of former Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s 127 goals under PlaNYC, aims to plant and care for 1 million new trees across the five boroughs by 2017.

Every weekend until May 18, you can pick up a free tree at spots throughout Brooklyn and learn how to plant and care for it. Brooklynites can choose from several different tree varieties, including flowering dogwoods, eastern redbuds, sweetbay magnolia and American hornbeam.

Registration for pickup will not open earlier than three weeks before each event and is only valid at the site on that date. Trees are given out on a first-come, first-served basis:
