If you’re going to have a cafe in a library, Four & Twenty Blackbirds seems like the most appropriate one. The pie bakery and cafe (located at 439 3rd Avenue), which is named after a nursery rhyme and just released its first cookbook a few months ago, is opening a second location next month in the Central Library at Grand Army Plaza.

The library reports they’ll have a cafe with a full menu — looks like it’ll be similar to what you’ll find on 3rd Ave, with pies, scones, pastries, breads, savory pies, and coffees — but that they’re already serving up some things in the front lobby now. No word yet on how books hold up next to a delicious slice of chess pie.

Four & Twenty, which opened the 3rd Avenue shop in 2009, is working on this library cafe in collaboration with Brooklyn chefs John and Mike Poiarkoff, the brothers behind The Pines and Vinegar Hill House, respectively.

If you’re looking to join in, two Craigslist postings for jobs — full-time pastry cook/baker and full-time line cook, and front-of-house manager and counter staff/baristas — are still up.
