We know you’re excited for the short work week, but the truth is you won’t even have to wait ’til the 4th to have fun–there are movies, readings, and more to be enjoyed all week long.

Saucy Bingo: The Matt Retires Edition
When: Monday, June 30, 10pm-1am (stop in anytime)
Where: The Emerson (561 Myrtle Avenue between Emerson Place and Classon Avenue)
What: Get your old lady on and play bingo for the chance at drinks, mystery prizes, and porn from The Emerson’s very own porn bin. Bartender Matt is leaving the establishment, so this particular Saucy Bingo will be a nice sendoff for him, too–plus the grand prize winner gets a $40 bar tab.
How much: $1 to play

Joe’s Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads Screening
When: Tuesday, July 1, 7:30pm
Where: BAM Rose Cinemas (30 Lafayette Avenue between Ashland Place and St Felix Street)
What: See Spike Lee’s NYU thesis film as part of the ongoing Do the Right Thing 25th Anniversary retrospective. Joe’s centers around Brooklyn barbers trying to keep their store from being taken over by a group of violent gangsters.
How much: $14 general admission

A Very Gnarly Dinner
When: Wednesday, July 2, 6-8pm
Where: Lulu & Po (154 Carlton Avenue on the corner of Myrtle Avenue)
What: Lulu & Po is teaming up with nearby Gnarly Vines (350 Myrtle Avenue between Carlton Avenue and Adelphi Street) to bring neighbors a very local a BYOB deal. Grab a bottle from GV before dinner (the menu currently features bone marrow tacos, lamb tartare, and more) and L & P will take care of the corking for only five bucks.
How much: $5 corkage fee

Myrtle Comedy
When: Thursday, July 3, 7:30pm
Where: Splitty (415 Myrtle Avenue between Clinton and Vanderbilt Avenues)
What: This weekly event hosted by Greg Johnson and Bob’s BurgersLarry Murphy features several standup comedy sets for an absolute pittance. To give you an idea of what’s in store, last week’s lineup included H. John Benjamin, Matt Koff, Jaqueline Novak, and Adam Newman
How much: $5

July 4 Food, Beer, Fireworks, and Dancing
When: Friday, July 4, 7-11pm
Where: Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm (at Flushing and Clinton Avenues)
What: Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that this year’s July 4 fireworks are being set off over the East River–so the Brooklyn Navy Yard is a great place to watch them! Tickets for this event are a bit steep, but come with some perks–you won’t have to fight for a spot near the waterfront, you’ll get a heaping plate of brisket or pulled pork and yummy cornbread, you can legally drink beer, and there’s a patriotic dance party too. Reserve your spot ahead of time.
How much: $100

Storytime: Great Americans
When: Saturday, July 5, 11am
Where: Greenlight Bookstore (686 Fulton Street on the corner of South Portland Avenue)
What: Kids three to eight years old and their families are invited to this Independence Day weekend event, which is set to include readings about famous American inventors, musicians, folk heroes, and presidents–plus some holiday craft time.
How much: Free

Top Gun Screening
When: Sunday, July 6, 8pm
Where: Habana Outpost (757 Fulton Street on the corner of South Portland Avenue)
What: Goose, it’s time to buzz the tower! This Sunday is set to be 84 and sunny, so grab a cold one and enjoy some old school Tom Cruise as the sun goes down.
How much: Free
