Flatlands resident Christopher Wiltshire, 35, was found dead yesterday afternoon near Shell Bank Creek in Gerritsen Beach.

Paramedics responded to a call of an accident near the creek, past the brush east of Gerritsen Avenue, at approximately 5pm. They found Wiltshire unresponsive and brought him to Coney Island Hospital.

Wiltshire was declared dead at the hospital, prompting an investigation by the police.

According to the Daily News, cops found that Wiltshire was off-roading on his dirt bike. He lost control of the bike, falling from it and causing his injuries. Police and the medical examiner are still investigating.

Less than two months ago, on March 18, Gerritsen Beach resident Kenneth Proveaux was tossed from his ATV when he struck a cement block at the nearby baseball fields, closer to Gerritsen Avenue. He died at Coney Island Hospital from head trauma caused by the accident.

Off-roading on ATVs and dirt bikes – or any other motor vehicle – is illegal in the parkland, which is officially part of Marine Park.
