Flatbush Junction Hosts Farmers Market Tomorrow

If you live near the Flatbush-Nostrand Junction, be sure to check out the first (then hopefully permanent) farmers market to take place on the Junction Triangle (1545 Flatbush Avenue) tomorrow, September 28, from 9am to 2pm.

GrowNYC, in collaboration with Council Member Jumaane Williams, will host the market, which will feature fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables from farmers across the tri-state area, plus cheese, meats, eggs, pickled products, and baked goods. There will also be a Youth Market, where local kids will help sell fresh produce and learn small-business skills.

“With the closure of the popular Meat Barn & Western Produce Market last month, which had served the Flatbush Junction community for nearly four decades, I thought it was important to take this opportunity to introduce the concept of Farmers Markets to this area,” Council Member Williams said in a statement. “It is my hope that everyone will patronize these farmers on Saturday so we can work to bring them back next summer on a regular basis. Hope to see my fellow vegans out there also making purchases.”

We asked the Council Member whether this would be a permanent market, and he said that’s the plan, but that it still “has to be worked out,” adding that a “good start would be a success tomorrow.” So go check it out!
