Flash Floods Drown Bensonhurst Streets [Photos]

The rain only fell for short spurts of time Tuesday morning, but the water caused plenty of damage.

Gusts of up to 20 miles per hour and heavy rain pushed trash and debris into gutters and clogged them leading to huge pools of water.

Crosswalks were made inaccessible and in some locations the water made it up all the way to the door. Some weary residents and business owners tried to clear the gutters but to no avail.

The torrential downpour did bring attention to Bensonhurst’s chronic trash problems. The litter and the oil slick were on full display during the worst of the rain.
