A car collision yesterday afternoon caused one of the vehicles to veer off the road, slam into a traffic signal and burst into flames on Ocean Parkway.

The dramatic accident left two in critical condition. Firefighters pulled them from the burning wreckage and transported them to Staten Island University Hospital, where they’re in stable condition.

Authorities told NBC New York that the two cars smashed into each other at the intersection of Ocean Parkway and Quentin Road. Other reports indicate the accident happened just after 7pm.

After colliding, one of the vehicles crashed into a traffic light – knocking it down – and was engulfed in flames. Authorities told NBC that no criminality is suspected.
