Monday Night Vinyl Club
When: Monday, December 5 from 8pm to 12am.
Where: Sycamore, 1118 Cortelyou Road between Stratford and Westminster Roads.
What: Be your own DJ with your favorite records. You bring it, you spin it, every first Monday at Sycamore.
How much: Free.

Music Trivia with Shane & Ruth
When: Tuesday, December 6 at 7pm.
Where: Bar Chord, 10008 Cortelyou Road between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road.
What: Test your knowledge at music trivia night hosted by Shane and Ruth. Win bar tabs, jukebox credits, and special prizes.

Free Creative Writing for Adults
When: Tuesday, December 6 at 6:15pm.
Where: Cortelyou Public Library, 1305 Cortelyou Road at Argyle Road.
What: Looking to hone your creative writing skills in a supportive environment? Or share your writing with a group of other writers? Join the New York Writers Coalition for this weekly class at the Cortelyou Library and find that writers community you’ve been looking for. (No prior experience necessary)

Sculpting with Wool: Needle Felting Basics
When: Tuesday, December 6 from 6pm to 9pm.
Where: Brooklyn Brainer Windsor Terrace, 1233 Prospect Avenue between Vanderbilt Avenue and Reeve Place.
What: Thinking about homemade holiday gifts this year? Learn how to turn un-spun wool into miniature 3D creations, and walk away with a finished project and basic supplies to continue crafting.
How Much: $48 includes supplies and finished project.

Birgid Volens, Hannah Read, and Rachel Ries at The Owl
When: Wednesday, December 7 at 7:30 & 8:30pm.
Where: The Owl Music Parlor, 497 Rogers Avenue between Midwood and Maple Streets.
What: Check out Birgid Volens’ landscape of sounds; renowned fiddler & songwriter Hannah Read; and “sly and compassionate” songs from Rachel Ries.
How Much: $10 suggested donation.

Brooklyn Public Philosophers talk at the central library
When: Wednesday, December 7 at 7pm.
Where: Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch, 10 Grand Army Plaza, The Dweck Center.

Workshop: How to start a nonprofit
When: Wednesday, December 7 from 6pm to 8pm.
Where: The Bridge Multicultural Project, at 1894 Flatbush Avenue between Avenue L & Alton Place.
What: Learn how to start a non-profit and breeze through the City Council discretionary application at this 2-part workshop series. The second workshop, “How to Win Government Funding,” will continue on December 13 at the same location, hosted by Council Member Jumaane Williams, Senator Kevin Parker, and the Nonprofit Help Desk.

Flatbush Caton Market public zoning forum
When: Wednesday, December 7 at 7pm.
Where: Community Board 14 District Office, 810 East 16th Street at Avenue H.
What: Voice your opinion about the potential site of 166 apartments and a commercial space at the Flatbush Caton Market.
How Much: Free

CAMBA’s Tree-lighting ceremony party
When: Thursday, December 8 from 6:30pm to 8 pm.
Where: Park Slope Armory, at 1402 8th Avenue between 14th & 15th Streets.
What: CAMBA’s Park Slope Women’s Shelter will host its 20th Annual Tree-Lighting Ceremony & festivities with cookies, hot cocoa, music, and holiday lights. Everyone is welcome, but RSVPs are encouraged — call (718) 369-7226 to let them know you’re coming.

‘Marie Antoinette’ at Brooklyn College PAC
When: Thursday, December 8 at 7pm.
Where: Walt Whitman Theater at Brooklyn College, 2900 Avenue H near Nostrand Avenue.
What: The Brooklyn College Department of Theatre Presents David Adjmi’s “Marie Antoinette” beginning Thursday and running through December 12.

Tombs, Tales & Tunes at Green-Wood Cemetery
When: Thursday, December 8 at 7pm.
Where: Green-Wood Cemetery, entrance at 5th Avenue and 25th Street.
What: Cozy up in the chapel with Susan Kent of Tell It: Brooklyn for an evening with seasoned storytellers, songs (performed by Charming Disaster), and treats, all inspired by permanent residents of Green-Wood. Attendees are also encouraged to tell stories (but note that this may not be suitable for young audiences).
How Much: $15 for members, $20 for non-members.
