It may be late notice for a lot of parents who headed down there this morning, but it looks like the seven new pre-K classes that will be added to the former Bishop Ford High School space are no longer being given on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, the 100 seats will be awarded after an extended lottery.

Council Member Carlos Menchaca sends word that he worked with the Mayor’s Office, the Department of Education, and Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito to extend the enrollment process, which now begins today and will conclude on Tuesday, September 2.

“This important revision will ensure that working families have fair access to these new seats,” he says. “Moreover, the additional days allow us to engage in the kind of coordinated outreach campaign that will let us reach residents with technology and language access barriers.”

If you reside in District 15, you can apply between 9am-3pm at PS 10, 511 7th Avenue, between Prospect Ave and 17th St. They’re working on finding a location to hold evening hours this Thursday, August 27 from 6-9pm — check back at this post, which we will update once we hear the location.

Again, when you register, you’ll need to bring your child, plus their 2010 birth certificate, their vaccination card, and two proofs of District 15 residence. The school notes that admission to this program will not provide your child with priority admission to PS 10.
