We all want to know how dirty the restaurants we go to really are… right?

Thankfully, the internet makes it easy to check out the grades of restaurants in Fort Greene or Clinton Hill, courtesy the New York City’s (NYC) Department of Health and a little ingenuity. Puppy Lab,a data intelligence agency, has compiled a map that visualizes the health grades of city restaurants by using publicly available information (“open data”) from the NYC’s own restaurant grading.

However, keep in mind that the map’s ratings don’t track perfectly with the city’s grades, due to the existence of things like the A+.

“‘A+’ takes into account performance from 2016 only. When I was designing the query, I thought it wouldn’t be fair to average out the score and grade when the restaurant is performing well this year but held back by their last 4 years of poor record,” said the site’s creator.

Meanwhile, according to NYC’s website, Yamashiro (466 Myrtle Avenue) received a grade of C, and six other restaurants in the 11205 area code received a grade of B.

The Finch, which won a Michelin star, was briefly closed on February 18 due to a host of violations, including “evidence of live mice” but has since reopened and done well on its heath grades, according to the city’s website.

Feel free to browse the NYC search engine while you’re at it.

Bon appetit!
