Events This Weekend — Plan To Be Outside!

This is definitely a weekend to be outside — the weather is supposed to be outstanding. There’s a lot happening in our immediate area and don’t forget that this is the last weekend for Arts Slope!

Plus, if you want to get out of the city for the day, think about some beautiful apple picking within two hours of Brooklyn.

Madonna vs. Janet Jackson at Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco
When: Friday, September 23 from 7:30pm to 10pm.
Where: Lefrak Center at Lakeside, Prospect Park.
What: In the battle of female pop star power, who will prevail? Find out at this week’s Dreamland Roller Disco – Madonna vs. Janet Jackson…with retro DJ sets and prizes for roller dancing skills. (This event is 21+)
How Much: $18 per person.

Live music at The Owl Music Parlour
When: Friday (9/23) and Saturday (9/24) at 8pm (doors at 7:30pm).
Where: The Owl Music Parlour, 497 Rogers Avenue between Midwood and Maple Streets.
What: Come out for Ali Dineen & Joanna Sternberg on Friday; and Ann & Bones // Robinson and Rohe on Saturday.
How Much: $10 suggested donation.

Arts Slope Festival
When: Friday, September 16 (Opening night) — Sunday, September 25
Where: View the map here, as the event is happening … well … just about everywhere.
What: Seeing statues and art pop up all over Prospect Park? Check out the article on Park Slope Stoop for everything you need to know about this 9-day festival.
How much: Free.

Flea Market, Beer Brewing & More At E. 4th Street Community Garden
When: Saturday (9/24) & Sunday (9/25), 9am to 2pm
Where: East Fourth Street, between Caton Avenue and Fort Hamilton Parkway in Kensington. Take the F/G to the Fort Hamilton Parkway stop.
What: A great selection of household goods to choose from, including books, toys, clothing, and a slew of beauty products — plus baked goods, and mums and pumpkins for sale. For the brew lovers among us, a beermaking workshop will be offered on Saturday starting at 11am. Don’t forget to check out the garden’s current art installation, featuring eight sculptures generously lent by local artists.
How Much: Free

Nature Activities All Day Saturday & Sunday in Prospect Park
When: Saturday (9/24) & Sunday (9/25), 10am to 3pm.
Where: Prospect Park — Zuckner Natural Exploration Area, Prospect Park Audubon Center & the Nethermead
What: Lots of interesting things to do for adults and kids, including several opportunities for bird watching. Choose between nature exploration activities at and around the Audubon Center; “Pop-Up Audubon: Radical Raptors” at the Zucker Natural Exploration Area; and “Pop-Up Audubon II: Climate Clues” in the Nethermead near Binnen Water.
How Much: Free

Michael Lewis Band (Saturday) & Cortelyou Jazz Jam (Sunday)
When: Saturday (9/24) at 9:35pm, and Sunday (9/25) at 9pm
Where: Bar Chord, 1003 Cortelyou Road between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road.
What: See the Michael Lewis Band on Saturday; On Sunday, bring your instrument and jam out with the hosts and neighborhood guests.
How Much: Free shows, but don’t forget the drinks at the bar.

Flatbush Frolic
When: Sunday, September 25, 11am to 6pm.
Where: Cortelyou Road (from Ocean Avenue to Coney Island Avenue)
What: Organized by the Flatbush Development Corporation, this year’s Frolic will feature food, dance, live music, a pizza eating contest, craft fair, children’s area, main stage, beer garden, a not-for-profit area, local businesses and more!
How Much: Free

Cortelyou Greenmarket on Sundays
When: Every Sunday from 8am to 3pm.
Where: Cortelyou Road between Argyle and Rugby Roads.
