Erv’s on Beekman (2122 Beekman Place in Prospect Lefferts Gardens) celebrated its soft opening this Saturday, inviting neighbors in to try everything from its cortados to iced cappuccinos and lattes – and the new space that’ll be a café by day and bar by night was packed.

Owner Robert Giles told us that he’s about 70 percent done with all of the renovation work, which means that the café portion is open now from 8am-1pm during the week. Eventually, Robert said the plan is for the café to be open throughout the day from 7:30am to 4pm, with a transition to the bar occurring between 4 and 5pm. The bar will then be open until 1am on weekdays and 2am on weekends.

“In terms of food, we are partnering up with some of the local Caribbean bakeries in the neighborhood to serve pastries during the day,” Robert wrote to us. “At night, we will serve cocktails, spirits, a local selection of draft beer and house-made pickle backs. Of course, we whole-heartedly encourage guests to order takeout from the plethora of old and new restaurants that are located in Lefferts!”

For the cocktail portion of Erv’s, Robert said “the focus is having a well-rounded, curated spirit list with the ability to make whatever a customer orders. Our cocktail list will be seasonally influenced that take cues from classics.”

Erv’s is already finding itself in the spotlight, and New York Magazine’s Grub Street named it one of the 20 best nightlife picks for the fall, noting that “adventurous types will appreciate the rotating specialty drinks (which might feature five Fernet cocktails).”

This is the kind of reaction that Robert’s hoping for, and he told us that he’s “really excited about opening a cocktail bar that caters specifically to residents in an area that doesn’t really have a nightlife scene.”

“In a dream scenario, I envision Erv’s as a crossroad of sorts: a place where people from the neighborhood can meet each other in a convivial setting, sip tipples and relax,” Robert wrote to us.

We’ll keep you posted on when Erv’s official grand opening will be – and if you’re interested in following their progress, you can follow them on Instagram and Facebook. Erv’s can be reached by calling (718) 662-8813.
