Early Morning Hurricane Sandy Damage in Ditmas Park

Early Morning Hurricane Sandy Damage in Ditmas Park

Well, that didn’t take long. Hurricane Sandy is already doing damage around the area this morning. In our neighborhood, several large and dangerous branches have fallen. The picture above (from Amber Ceffalio) shows a branch down on Marlborough Road between Dorchester Road and Ditmas Avenue. Amber also reports that another big branch is down near Foster Avenue and East 19th Street. Others have reported similar sightings around the area.

Further south, several neighbors are teaming up this morning to preemptively clean out sewers near Glenwood Road to prevent flooding. The sewers are notorious for flooding in much less serious storms and have been a worry for neighbors heading into Sandy.

Donald Loggins sent in an very early morning picture of a Porta Potty blown over by the strong winds.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Sandy is now the “most intense hurricane ever north of North Carolina” (in terms of barometric pressure) in history. As things intensify over the day and into tonight, stay safe and do your best to stay inside.
