Driver Arrested and Charged in Traffic Crash that Killed Woman in Sheepshead Bay

Sheryl Augustine, 66, of New Paltz was crossing Ocean Ave. at Emmons Ave. just before 5pm on October 16, when a driver made a right turn from Emmons onto Ocean Ave. and struck her, killing her, and making her the fourth elderly resident to be killed in Sheepshead Bay this year so far.

Police have arrested Roman Slobodkin, 70, of East 17th Street in Midwood and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield to a pedestrian, and disobeying a traffic device.

Traffic fatalities are up sharply in Brooklyn South precincts this year, as we reported earlier.
