Ditmas Park Weekday Events Spotlight: August 15–August 18

Looking for something to do on the days when you’re not playing hooky and hitting the beach? Whether you’re looking to see up-and-coming musicians, catch bats in Prospect Park or wind down with some park yoga — this is your spot for the hottest weekday events in (and immediately around) Ditmas Park. **Bask in parking freedom today — alternate side parking is suspended Monday, August 15 for the Catholic holiday Feast of the Assumption. Meters are still in effect.**

Kids Create
When: Monday, August 15 from 4pm to 5pm.
Where: Cortelyou Public Library, 1305 Cortelyou Road at Argyle Road.
What: Join other kids in creating a new, take-home craft project every week.
How Much: Free

We’re Going to Hell Comedy Show
When: Monday, August 15 at 9pm.
Where: Bar Chord, 1003 Cortelyou Road between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road.
What: Caleb Barge and Zach Erwin bring to you a free stand up comedy show at Bar Chord on the 2nd and 3rd Monday of every month.
How Much: Free comedy, but don’t forget the drinks at the bar.

The Splash Pad, open for cooling all week
When: Monday through Saturday, 10am to 7pm (Sundays until 6pm) until September 5.
Where: Lefrak Center at Lakeside, 452 Flatbush Avenue.
What: Cool off at Prospect Park’s largest water play area, with 47 water spray jets covering 16,000 square feet, making hours of fun in the sun for children 12 years or younger.
How Much: Free

Bucky Hayes at Bar Chord
When: Wednesday, August 17 at 9pm.
Where: Bar Chord, 1003 Cortelyou Road between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road.
What: Join Bucky Hayes, whose current band Bucky Hayes and the Commonwealth is about to release its album “100 Miles to Macon”,  for a pre-album release show at Bar Chord.
How Much: Free show, but don’t forget the drinks at the bar.

Music at The Owl in Prospect Lefferts Gardens
When: Thursday, August 18 at 8pm.
Where: The Owl Music Parlor, 497 Rogers Avenue between Midwood and Maple Streets.
What: Catch local musicians Jennifer Kimball, Brother Brothers, and Alec Spiegelman for a great evening of music at this intimate PLG venue.
How Much: Free show, but do tip the musicians and bar.

Creatures of the night bat walk
When: Thursday, August 18 from 7pm to 10pm.
Where: Prospect Park Audubon Center, enter the park at Lincoln Road.
What: Explore Prospect Park after dark with wine, cheese, and expert naturalist Paul Keim, as he speaks about the ecological role played by bats and nocturnal insects. Then stroll through the park to find various species of resident bats in flight. This event is 21+
How Much: $25. Advance registration is required but cash-only accepted at the door.

Yoga in Prospect Park
When: Thursday, August 18 from 7pm to 8pm.
Where: Long Meadow in Prospect Park. Enter at 3rd street or Grand Army Plaza, and look for the sea of mats.
What: Join Style Root instructor Trina Morris for outdoor evening yoga in Prospect Park, during the magic hour when the sun sets over the lush tree line. All experience levels welcome. To participate, bring your mat over to the Long Meadow, but first sign this waiver and RSVP. (If you don’t have a mat, just bring a towel or do your yoga directly on the cool grass.)
