The New York World recently used data collected from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets‘ survey of every grocery store in the state from 2008-2013 to make a map searchable by zip code–and we’re pleased that much of our area comes out pretty clean!

Zip code 11226 shows absolutely no critical deficiencies from the study, while 11230 and 11218 each racked up a few major violations. Stores to watch out for, according to the organization’s findings, include:

  • Key Food (1407 Foster Avenue between Rugby and Argyle Roads): two citations
  • Shop Rite (1080 McDonald Avenue between Elmwood Avenue and Avenue I): three citations
  • Foodtown (382 McDonald Avenue between Church Avenue and Albemarle Road): three citations
  • Met Foods (4030 18th Avenue between E 4th and E 5th Streets): four citations
  • Associated (1413 Avenue J between E 14th and E 15th Streets): 18 citations

Play around with the map, and click on each store that pops up to learn more about their critical deficiencies over the past five years.

We have to say it’s pretty surprising, given what we’ve seen around, that certain stores didn’t make it onto the list. Do results reflect your experiences at supermarkets in the neighborhood, or are you a little shocked, too?
