The Day: A Church Closure, King Lear and FAB Fridays Return

Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill,

We’ve had some surprise snow this week, but luckily the weather should warm up a bit this weekend to the 60s and 50s, according to the National Weather Service. If you’re out enjoying the spring weather this weekend, take a picture and upload it to The Nabe’s Flickr pool.

Here’s some local news to start your day:

  • St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, at 259 Washington Avenue, will be close this summer, reported the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. Its final service will be on June 22. The Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America announced the closure Tuesday, citing a shrinking congregation and a needed $10 million worth of renovations to the church. The pre-school at the church,
St. Luke’s Academy, will close on Aug. 31.Theatre for a New Audience will put on a special performance of “King Lear” at the Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place, for William Shakespeare’s birthday on April 23, reported the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. Locals can buy tickets online for the show for $5o with the code BARDBDAY. Students and people under 30 years old can buy tickets for $20 at the box office. Audience members will get a free TFANA tote bag and drink. There will be a party after the play with cast members in the lobby. 
  • The Fulton Area Business Alliance announced its 2014 FAB Friday lineup, starting April 25, reported the Brooklyn Reader. The free outdoor event series, which runs through September, kicks off next week with kids’ activities followed by live music by deejay Gene Allen in the Putnam Triangle Plaza.
