Dadcation Time? 5 Brooklyn Fathers Share Their Dream Days

We recently discussed ten great ways to take a momcation, but how about a dadcation? These guys are right there in the parenting trenches with us hardworking moms, and deserve their own time to regroup.

What’s the best way to spend a dadcation in the city, though? 5 Brooklyn fathers told us what they would include in their perfect day away – here’s what they had to say:

“First of all, I would sleep in without children waking me up. Since this dadcation is being sponsored by City Kid Corner, I would need to stay at a hotel the night before to make sure no children wake me up. After a long lazy morning, I would meet friends for lunch at Eataly – the place on the roof, La Birreria. They have great craft beers and good food. I’d check out Time Out to see what good films are playing, and go to the movies. I’d go to Peter Luger for dinner – I’ve never been, but I’ve always wanted to try their steak.” – Brent Lagerman, Nico and Marco’s dad

“Depending on the time of year, I would enjoy time at one of Brooklyn’s (or the City’s) public golf courses (Dyker Beach or Marine Park in Brooklyn), time biking to and around Brooklyn Bridge Park, or playing baseball at the Prospect Park Parade Grounds. Considering these are some of the activities that actually do fill most spring or summer weekends, maybe I am living the dream!” – Darren Bloch, Adison and Ainsley’s dad

“On days like that, I like going to the city and hitting my favorite comic shops and book stores – like one of the three Midtown Comics or Forbidden Planet. Then I would treat myself to a lunch at Luke’s Lobster or enjoy a nice lunch date with a friend at the local noodle shop Naruto Ramen.” – Rafi Rodriguez, Gideon and Marlowe’s dad

“I’d love to do a day of record hunting and shopping all over Brooklyn. Faves include Permanent Records in South Slope, Academy Records in Greenpoint, Earwax and Rough Trade in Billyburg, and Human Head in South Billyburg. Movie, drinks and Dinner at Nighthawk. And just a simply drinking whiskey and rye with the boys! Faves are South and Quarter Bar in South Slope.” – Donny Levit, Jack’s dad

“Breakfast at Dizzy’s. F train to Broadway/Lafayette and wander through the Village buying records. Go to the Whitney and take my damn time looking at whatever I want to. Late lunch at the Studio Cafe on the Whitney’s 8th floor. Go around the corner to the High Line and mosey all the way to the other end. Come back down the High Line to the trellis at 18th St. and read for a while. Get coffee in the Chelsea Market passage and text with people I miss. Wander back up and down the High Line Instagramming golden hour photos. Meet a few other dads at Spa 88 on Fulton for sauna/steam/beer/Russian food. Get home after the others have already gone to sleep. Watch Columbo in bed on my phone until I doze off.” – Dan Janzen, Bobby and Lulu’s dad
