Cops Hunt Q Train Bandits

Police are hunting for a group of men believed to be behind a robbery on the Q line, and who spent their spoils in Sheepshead Bay and Brighton Beach.

Authorities shared video stills of four men they say stole a wallet from a sleeping straphanger on the Q train in December, News 12 reports.

The thieves allegedly used the stolen credit cards for a shopping spree at Stop & Shop on Avenue Y and Dunkin Donuts in Brighton Beach.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto Crime Stoppers’ website or by texting their tips to CRIMES (274637), then entering TIP577.

  1. It took four guys to steal a wallet from someone sleeping on a train? What happened to the long cons and heists of the bad ol’ days?

Also, what exactly does one need to do to get the NYPD to actually pull surveillance footage and involve the Crime Stoppers website? I know many people who have reported crimes far worse than a stolen wallet on the subway and they barely got so much as a police report out of it. Something tells me these guys either robbed the wrong straphanger (connections) or just got unlucky because the only cops in the city doing any real detective work happened to respond.

  2. A subway cop on the Brighton Line, Lcl or Exp is as rare as a hen’s tooth. Our Transit Police District must be very short staffed or fully staffed with invisible officers. And while we are on the subject is anyone but me tired of coming into Kings Hwy and just missing the connection with the Q? Maybe we can ‘supersize’ the B and let in run local during the evening rush from Kings Hwy to Brighton Beach Avenue? That would take about 12 minutes off my ride when we miss connection with southbound Q.
