Congrats To Our Local Oscar Winners!
A huge congratulations to Park Slope’s own Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who took home the Oscar for Best Original Song at Sunday’s 86th Academy Awards! They won for Let It Go, the song they wrote for the animated movie Frozen, which they’ve said was inspired by a walk through Prospect Park.
That makes Bobby the 12th EGOT recipient, joining those who’ve won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. He’s also the youngest winner of all four, and the one to win them all in the shortest amount of time, about 10 years. He won a Daytime Emmy for Best Music Direction and Composition on The Wonder Pets in 2008, a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album for The Book of Mormon in 2012, and a Tony for Best Original Score for Avenue Q in 2004.
The couple apparently didn’t go out to celebrate at any Hollywood parties last night, as they told the LA Times after they won that they planned to go to sleep, and spend some time with their two daughters, who were also part of their inspiration for the winning song.
“We wanted to write a song that would instill in them the idea that fear and shame shouldn’t prevent them from being the magical people they really are,” Bobby told the paper, displaying a pasta covered sign that said “EGOT” that their daughters had made for him.
