Following a Community Board 2 announcement that the Pratt Station Post Office will change locations to make way for a new housing development, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries will host a community meeting tomorrow night to discuss the future of the post office currently located at 524 Myrtle Avenue.

Representative Jeffries, along with Assemblyman Walter T. Mosely and representatives from the United States Postal Service, will seek suggestions from the community for a new location for the Pratt Station Post Office. The Silverstone Property Group purchased all of the buildings on the block from 504 to 524 Myrtle Avenue last December, DNAinfo reported this spring. According to Robert Perris, the District Manager for Community Board 2, Silverstone does not plan to renew the lease for the post office and the postmaster has not yet come up with one, so he’s asking the community’s input.

“It seems apparent we’re not going to have much choice here,” Mr. Perris said.  “Every neighborhood relies on a post office and we’re counting on the post office to find a new location.”

At the moment the nearest post office to Pratt Station is about a half mile away, at 950 Fulton Street. The community meeting will be held on tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the Willoughby Walk Community Room at 185 Hall Street. To RSVP, call Rep. Jeffries’ office at (718) 237-2211, or register online at Jeffries.house.gov.
