Despite the way it may look at the moment, the mayor’s favorite coffee place hasn’t closed for good — Colson Patisserie (374 9th Street at 6th Avenue) has signed a 10-year lease extension, and their space is getting spruced up for the occasion.

Chef and owner Yonatan Israel tells us: “The furniture and displays were designed and manufactured by Costa Group, an Italian firm specializing in food retail outfitting (their most famous client is the Eataly stores).”

The pastry shop is known for using both French and Belgian traditions to offer many pleasing sweets. Last year, we sampled and spoke highly about their “perfectly tender and flaky” Apple Turnover.

The company “has grown tremendously in the last few years,” explains Israel. “We opened a kitchen in Industry City [220 36th Street] and our wholesale business has exploded under the leadership of Andrew Hackel, who joined the company as a partner two years ago.”

Israel adds that he and Hackel are working on opening a larger kitchen and retail space “to accommodate our growth for the next few years.”

We’re sure Mayor de Blasio will be excited, as he’s been a regular for some time, often stopping in after his [sometimes criticized] workouts at the Y up the street. He even officiated a wedding for two of Colson’s employees in 2014.

You’ll be able to pick up a your Colson favorite soon, as they plan on reopening on September 21.
