The OMNI Ensemble, a chamber music group founded and directed by neighbor David Wechsler, will perform their sixth annual Midsummer Night’s Benefit Party on Thursday, July 21. Come out for a night of music, barbecue and drinks, and dancing under the stars in Ditmas Park.

The OMNI Ensemble gala has become annual summer tradition at homes around Ditmas Park, West Midwood, and Midwood Park. This year’s event will be hosted by Bob and Jo-Anne Kalb in their yard at 755 Rugby Road, between Waldorf Court and Wellington Court.

Founded in 1983, the OMNI ensemble is known for its extensive repertoire, playing works from the Renaissance to contemporary avant-garde in a single program. The party will support the non-profit ensemble’s 2016-2017 concert season

The gala program features music from the Haydn London Trio with Wechsler and classical Reinassance selections performed with a modern innovation.  “I play midi wind controller for those pieces,” said Wechsler, who is known for mixing electronic instruments into the classical repertoire.

Guest performers include Karl Kraber on flute and Jennifer Vincent on cello, and several others on-hand to add jazz and rock and roll to OMNI’s already expansive musical reach. “We choose the gala pieces to be mostly fun and dance-party music,” Wechsler said. Erika Banks, who performed in the ensemble’s mini opera “The Face on the Barroom Floor,” will be back in Brooklyn to provide vocals for the evening.

Come out to enjoy incredible music, food, and dancing. Tickets, available online, are $40 per person or $70 per couple, with $20 tickets available for students.
