Carro Center Hosts Mary Powell Tribute And Madison-Marine-Homecrest Civic On Consecutive Nights This Week
Carmine Carro Community Center

The Carmine Carro Community Center in Marine Park is hosting back-to-back events this week, starting with the Annual Mary Powell Memorial Celebration, Wednesday, March 18 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. The following day, the community is invited to attend the next meeting of the Madison-Marine-Homecrest Civic Association, Thursday, March 19 at 7:30pm.

The tribute to Powell will feature Irish music by Cork City musician and philanthropist, Donie Carroll.

Powell, the long-time president of the Madison-Marine-Homecrest Civic Association, passed away on February 12, 2010. The Brooklyn native set an example of dignity and dogged determination that was inspirational to all who knew her throughout her 91 years.

Powell’s lifetime of dedicating herself to her community inspired the creation of the Mary Powell Foundation, which encourages and promotes community service.

There will be food and refreshments, and admission is free, although donations are appreciated. It is also requested that, if you plan to attend, you please RSVP so organizers can determine the number of expected attendees.

The following evening, FBI Agent Thomas Nicpon from the bureau’s New York field office will be on hand at the Madison-Marine-Homecrest Civic. There will also be recognition of the FDNY’s Engine 321, located at Gerritsen Avenue and Avenue U.

As always, local elected officials and representatives from the 61st Precinct have been invited.

The Carmine Carro Community Center in Marine Park is located at 3000 Fillmore Avenue at Marine Parkway.
