Captain America To Make Brooklyn Tour After Comic-Con
What do you get a superhero who has three box office hits, has fought in World War II and has protected the American people from villains for their birthday?
A 13-foot-tall bronze statue that literally weighs a ton.
This year marks Captain America’s 75-year birthday, and to celebrate, Marvel will unveil a bronze statue in his honor at San Diego Comic-Con this week. Then, the Brooklyn native will go back to his hometown, making trips to Prospect Park, Barclays Center, and Sunset Park, reports Entertainment Weekly.
After Comic-Con, Steve Rogers, formally known as Captain America will travel east across the country as Marvel documents his journey on social media before settling in Brooklyn on August 10.
There, the statue will be temporarily installed in Prospect Park for fans to take pictures with, and in September, the statue will move to Barclays Center before heading to Sunset Park in October, but it’s unknown where in Sunset Park.

Brooklyn will also join in the celebration by screening free Captain America films for the next three Wednesday.

today at 7:00 p.m. in Prospect Park.A screening of
Marvel’sAvengers: Age of Ultron
will follow on Wednesday, July 27, and Marvel’sCaptain America: Civil War —
which was released earlier this year — on Wednesday, August 10, when the statue arrives.“I’m excited to see Brooklynites out on summer evenings in Prospect Park to enjoy ‘A Summer Movie Under the Stars’ as we welcome one of our borough’s brightest stars, Captain America, back home to Brooklyn,” said Adams. “After 75 years, our shield-bearing superhero continues to inspire through his crime-fighting capers and patriotic persona. I invite families from Brooklyn and beyond to join me for these films and all the fun-filled festivities we have planned to mark this anniversary.”
Captain America creators, Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, describe Steve Rogers was born on the Lower East Side, but in the Chris Evans movie version, the superhero hails from Brooklyn. It’s only appropriate the statue bears a quote from Captain America: The First Avenger: “I’m just a kid from Brooklyn.”
