Bus Driver Arrested After Fight at Flatbush Junction This Morning

MTA bus driver Robert Volkens, 42, was arrested and charged with assault in the third degree at 7:47 a.m. today at the Flatbush-Nostrand Junction, said the NYPD.

“Someone wanted to get on the bus for free and was refused,” said Officer Walker at the 70th Precinct. “They tried to get in the back door, there was an altercation and then a fight. We had to take the bus driver in to see what happened, whether or not he was just defending himself or attacked a customer. The incident is under investigation.”

The New York Post reports:

After a back and forth another passenger graciously paid the man’s fare, cops said. The ungrateful passenger wound up spitting in the bus driver’s face twice when he was exiting the bus on Nostrand Avenue near Avenue H, cops said. Volkens followed him off and punched him, before getting collared for misdemeanor assault, cops said.
