DUMBO – Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) announced today that the much-loved pop-up pool will be back for one more season in 2018.

Located at Pier 2, the pop-up pool debuted in the park in 2012 with a five-year contract. At the start of summer this year, many feared that it would be the final season for the popular attraction.

The pool is situated on the park’s Pier 2 uplands which are slated to be developed into additional green space in Fall 2018, according to BBP’s announcement, so the pool will pop-up for one last summer before the construction begins late next year.

Love Our Pool, a group of local parents rallying to preserve the pool, have been working to keep the summertime attraction at the park, garnering the support of local elected officials, including Congress Member Nydia Velazquez, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Assembly Member Jo Anne Simon, and Council Member Stephen Levin.

“Much like a year ago, LOP is thrilled that Brooklyn Bridge Park has listened to the community in choosing to keep the beloved pop-up open an additional year,” Love Our Pool’s co-organizer, Lee Levine, said in a statement.

“Eric Landau [President of Brooklyn Bridge Park] and his leadership team recognize how a community pool is critical to the success of a great urban park meeting the needs of the community both near and far. Love Our Pool believes this is a necessary first step toward our ultimate goal of securing a permanent pool in Brooklyn Bridge Park. And we will continue to work with the Park on making that vision a reality,” Levine added.

The pop-up pool measures 30″ by 50,” gets as deep as three-and-a-half-feet, and has a capacity of 60 swimmers at a time. It includes deck concessions, showers, restrooms, and is free to the public.
