Brighton’s Bicycle Gunman Begins His Murder Trial

This surveillance camera caught Dimitry, the suspect, riding around the area before and after the murder.

Alla Kamenev was killed while walking home in Brighton Beach almost three years ago. Her ex-husband was soon tagged as a suspect. Dimitry Kamenev, 79, went on trial yesterday for allegedly killing Kamenev over their bitter separation.

In October 2011, the victim was walking back from a nail salon when she was shot four times in the chest on Sea Breeze Avenue and Brighton 2nd Street, three blocks from her home. It was the middle of the day and Alla was set to leave for London that same day with her new lover.

The Daily News reported on the trial:

“This is the first vacation of her entire (new) life,” Assistant District Attorney Josh Charlton said in Brooklyn Supreme Court. “She sees the last thing she ever wants to see.”
That thing was the elderly defendant – whom she divorced in 2007 after 43 years of marriage – before he pumped four bullets into her chest, the prosecutor alleged.

Dimitry was captured on surveillance video riding a girl’s bike before and after the murder.

When interviewed by cops, Kamenev had stated “‘What’s done is done’ – and that’s the last thing the defendant said in English,” the prosecutor told jurors. There was also a witness that identified him as the shooter.

The trial is ongoing.
