Bite Of The Day: Spinach & Goat Cheese Crepe From Café Lafayette

We’re planning to use all of our American might on Friday, so today seemed like a great time to get a little French. We stopped by Café Lafayette (99 South Portland Avenue between Fulton Street and Lafayette Avenue) to grab the lightest of carb-wrapped lunches–the savory crepe.

We ordered a goat cheese and spinach crepe ($10), which came out quickly and was served with a little side of greens. At first bite, the crepe packed a wallop of cheese that was both incredibly satisfying and a little worrisome from the standpoint of someone who really ought to be eating her vegetables–but successive bites revealed alternating pockets of creamy goodness and sautéed greens with a tinge of salt from the paper thin crepe. Overall, we were left feeling like a full (but not overstuffed), très chic version of Popeye.

Café Lafayette is a nice low key spot to get a little work or reading done this summer–enjoy a crepe, coffee, or glass of wine, take advantage of their WiFi, and ward off the beating sun for a while in their cool, cavernous, sunken space anytime between 9:30am to 11:30pm Sunday through Thursday, and until midnight Friday and Saturday.
