Sometimes all you need is a quick, no fuss, affordable bite for lunch or dinner and Lafayette Grocery and Deli’s (Lafayette Avenue) is the perfect spot. As any local knows, the corner deli boasts the usual snacks, drinks and some fresh produce, as well as a limited deli counter, but did you know you can also get stuffed sandwiches and fresh juices, as well?

Like most local joints, Lafayette Grocery sandwiches are kind of a hidden gem. We ordered the Smoked Goat — smoked turkey slices with goat cheese, green apple slices, spinach, tomato, and balsamic vinaigrette — and were delighted to find that it wasn’t a paltry serving of just a few slices. Just half of this sandwich could work for lunch, but if you eat the whole thing, you might not even need dessert!

We enjoyed the mix of savory and tangy sweet that the turkey and vinaigrette plus goat cheese provided, and the multigrain bread was sturdy while also allowing the fillings to take center stage. And at $5.99, you can’t go wrong.

The juices are also a great deal, at $4.99 each for a large cup like the one seen above. This was a Refresher — cucumber, apple, celery, lemon, and kale — but they also have other options, like the Awakener (orange, carrot, and apple), Rejuvenator (apple, beet, carrot, cucumber), and Detoxifier (kale, lemon, cucumber, ginger, and apple).

Verdict: We appreciate and are grateful that this time-tested local favorite continues to stick around, providing a neighborhood spot to visit on the go or for a picnic lunch at the tables outside in warmer weather. Let’s make sure to frequent them often to say hi!
