A bicyclist was hit by a car at Argyle Road and Newkirk Avenue just after 3:30pm Sunday afternoon, neighbors and the FDNY told us.

An FDNY spokesman said the individual was taken to Kings County Hospital. When we spoke to the NYPD, an officer told us that the individual’s injuries were not serious enough for a police investigation to be launched.

A neighbor, Arthur, told us he saw the accident while eating at Ox Cart and wrote to us that “the bicyclist seemed to cross against traffic and was hit by the front of a Toyota TLC car.” The driver stayed at the scene, officials said.

“They took him away by stretcher but he did not seem too hurt, was wearing a helmet luckily,” Arthur wrote.

Another neighbor, Donna, wrote to us that the corner of Argyle and Newkirk “is very dangerous.”

“I walk my dogs four times a day, and we have had several scary near misses” at that location, Donna said.

This past winter, a traffic light was installed at the nearby Newkirk Avenue and Westminster Road after there were six crashes recorded there in a 12-month period.

What do you think could be done to make the intersection at Argyle and Newkirk safer?
