Best Places for Dog Watching in Ditmas Park

Dog Watching at the Flatbush Food Co-op

Now that dogs are no longer welcome at Sycamore, we’ve had to enjoy meeting and greeting local canines at other neighborhood places. So, for those of us who love dogs but don’t own any, what Ditmas Park locations offer the best dog watching?

TOP DOG

Flatbush Food Co-op, 1415 Cortelyou Road at Marlborough
There’s a bench in front of the store, so you can sit, drink a cup of coffee, and revel in the cute pups that pass by or hang out waiting while their owners stop inside for a quick errand.

RUNNERS UP
Dog at the Cortelyou Greenmarket

Cortelyou Greenmarket, Cortelyou between Argyle and Rugby
If the Greenmarket ran every day, the corner in front of the Cortelyou Library would be our winner. Even though you can only visit the market and its many shopping-assistant dogs on Sundays from 8am to 3pm, this spot is still a leader of the pack.

Dog Watching from Ox Cart

Ox Cart, 1301 Newkirk Ave
If you sit by the windows that run along Newkirk, it’s basically like watching dog TV, as pet owners from nearby buildings take their dogs Max, Cody, and so on for a stroll up the avenue. And they often stop to rest at the benches sitting right out front.

Prospect Park, Coffee Bark
You can experience some great dog watching at Prospect Park almost any time of day, but none so much fun as strolling through the meadow near the picnic house on the first Saturday of the month, when Coffee Bark meets at 7am.
