Park Slope Neighbor and actor Sir Patrick Stewart caused quite a stir when he practiced the authentic New York fold when enjoying his first “slice” back in May 2013.

A few years after that definitive moment at Smiling Pizza (323 7th Avenue at 9th Street), the Royal Shakespeare Company veteran got downright philosophical about it all with his very own zen kōan.

Could local brews be the actor’s new love?

Stewart was answering questions via Twitter when a fan from across the pond tweeted: “@SirPatStew can you get decent bitter in the USA? #AskSirPatStew”

Sir Patrick’s response was rather enthusiastic about the suds in our borough:

Sam Lance, who manages Gowanus’ Other Half Brewing (195 Centre Street between Smith and Court Streets) couldn’t have been happier to hear Sir Patrick’s beer enthusiasm.

“If we could make a collaboration and do a beer with him, that would be awesome,” OH’s manager told the New York Post. “We have done space-themed beers based on hops, and it would be so cool to collaborate with Patrick Stewart and make a beer with his help.”

The Stoop agrees the collaboration could very well be a match made for next generations to come. Just last weekend we spent some time sampling OH’s offerings at Village Voice’s Sixth Annual Pour.

Other Half is a relatively new brewery, started in 2014, but is already drawing large crowds to its tap room on Tuesdays and on weekends and is developing a reputation among consumers and fellow brewers for its excellent beers.

We sampled the crisp and floral Double Mosaic Dream, a double dry hopped IPA made with lupulin powder, not pellets, and a darker, more intense, deep and malty All Green Everything Imperial IPA made with a blend of different hops.

“India Pale Ale started with the English,’’ added Lance. “He comes from the place that helped start the IPA movement and smaller family breweries, and he’s recognizing that US breweries are up and coming. It shows he’s a huge part of his community.”

We will drink to that.
