Be Warned: GoogaMooga and Half Marathon Hit Prospect Park This Weekend
If you’re not a fan of crowds, you may want to avoid Prospect Park at all costs this weekend.
It all starts Saturday at 7am with the Brooklyn Half Marathon, which has a new route this year, which closes the park loop until 9am. The race still heads down Ocean Parkway (FYI, drivers), so be sure to check out the route map to see where you can stand and watch. Are any of you running? Let us know so we can cheer you on!
After the race makes its way through the park, The Great GoogaMooga will attract thousands to the area around the Nethermead on Saturday from 11am to 9pm and Sunday from 11am to 8pm. The red dotted line on the map above shows which part of the park will be closed off to anyone without a ticket. Though, you will probably still hear the music from any number of spots around the park, if you didn’t score a ticket.
Oh but that’s not all: Saturday is also the big It’s My Park volunteering day, and the popular Fleece Fest is at the zoo both Saturday and Sunday.
So 15,000 runners, plus tens of thousands of festival attendees (40,000 free tickets were available in the first fiascoed batch), plus redirected vehicle traffic and closed off sections of the park…how do you think this weekend will go, and will you be there?
