This weekend Bay Ridge held two of its biggest annual celebrations: the historic Ragamuffin Parade, and the slightly younger Third Avenue Festival. The weekend respectively marked the 50th and 43rd birthdays of the beloved community street fairs.

The Ragamuffin Parade, held on Saturday along 3rd and 4th avenues between 76th and 92nd streets, is a landmark neighborhood institution where children dress up in their Halloween costumes and march through Bay Ridge. The Third Avenue Festival, held on Sunday along its namesake Third Avenue, from 69th Street to 94th Street, didn’t feature as many costumes but was rife with rides, games, and of course, tons of food.

While the two festivals may have been held on different avenues and may feature different traditions, both are undeniably a celebration of Bay Ridge as a neighborhood and community.
