As of today (Thursday, October 8), the Atlantic Avenue Pathmark is now officially owned by the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company and our 625 Atlantic Avenue Pathmark is among the first wave of stores to close to undergo a week (seven days) of renovations/conversion.

The new Stop & Shop grand opening is planned for next Friday, October 16. Throughout the conversion process, in-store pharmacies and banks will remain open.

The other five stores being converted this coming week are in Ozone Park (92-10 Atlantic Avenue), the Bronx (961 East 174th Street), Southampton (167 Main Street), and East Hampton (67 Newtown Lane).

Eventually, by November 13, an additional 20 stores — including the Gravesend location at 2965 Cropsey Avenue — will close and be converted, as well. The 25 stores were sold in July to Stop & Shop for $146 million.

Once officially a Stop & Shop, the store will “be refreshed with modern décor, updated refrigeration systems, new lighting, state-of-the-art technology, and other improvements,” including “new and vibrant signage.”

Even better: around 3,000 former Pathmark/A&P employees will remain employed by Stop & Shop.

“Shoppers should look forward to seeing many of the same friendly faces, said Don Sussman, president of Stop & Shop New York Metro Division. In addition, he noted, “at each store grand opening event, Stop & Shop plans to make a charitable donation to a local non-profit organization that makes a positive impact on the lives of children.”

Also:

Produce departments will feature an assortment of fresh and locally-grown fruits and vegetables and a variety of organic produce.
The Butcher Shoppe and Seafood Markets will feature Certified Angus Beef, 100% U.S.D.A. Choice Grade Beef, All-Natural Pork, Grade A Chicken and a vast selection of steaks, filets and shellfish.
