We stopped into New York Brick Oven Pizza last night (375 Marlborough Road/1502 Cortelyou Road) to see how new owner and chef Michael Dibari’s pies differed from what we’d tried under former management, and we weren’t disappointed.

Our pizza was in and out of the oven in under five minutes, and featured fresh mushrooms and onions, plus sweet sauce that contrasted beautifully with a smoky wood-fired crust (that made half of our Marlborough block smell great last night).

Michael is only serving whole pies, will have delivery soon, and hopes to be open from 11am seven days a week as soon as his staff is finalized (although he may or may not be closed the next few Sundays until that happens, so be sure to call ahead at 718-282-4222 if you’re not sure).

He says once the dining room is open, he will offer beer and wine–and that he’d like to have low key music nights at some point, maybe with tapas and cocktails.

“I want you to be able to bring the kids, bring your boyfriend, have a night with the girls,” Michael says. “I don’t want to be in too much of a niche.”

So there you have it! Everyone is welcome, and we have a lot to look forward to on the east side of Cortelyou. Even if you tried it in its previous incarnation and were underwhelmed, consider giving the new New York Brick Oven Pizza a chance–we think it’s absolutely worth it.
