Following last week’s hit-and-run death of Guler Ugur-Yaacobi, a 44-year-old Kensington resident and professional photographer, the NYPD is asking for the public’s help in finding an SUV driver who they said fled the scene of fatal incident in Morningside Heights.

The police released the following footage of the vehicle, a dark colored Land Rover/Range Rover with damage to the right front passenger headlight and bumper:

Ugur-Yaacobi, who lived on E. 7th Street, near Cortelyou Road, was crossing eastbound on West 113th Street, near Amsterdam Avenue, when she was struck by an SUV traveling northbound on Amsterdam, the NYPD said. EMS responded, and she was rushed to Saint Luke’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Originally from Turkey, Ugur-Yaacobi was a beloved photographer who never took a day of her life for granted, friends said on her business’s Facebook page.

“I am so shocked to hear of this tragedy!” one woman wrote. “Guler photographed our wedding so beautifully. Guler, your art was beautiful and so were you. The world is a darker place without you. You will be greatly missed.”

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.
