After A Decade, Australian Pub Sheep Station Will Say Goodbye With One Last Hurrah

The owner of the Gowanus Australian Pub Sheep Station (149 4th Avenue at Douglass Street) has announced they’ll be closing down for good at the end of this week. But no need to drink with the flies in sadness — they’ll be holding a farewell party this Thursday, July 28.

The Australian pub and restaurant will shutter after a decade, according to manager Sheree Kentwell.

“We have loved sharing our lives and having laughs and many a beer with all our regulars and customers,” says Kentwell. “We will be closing the doors with a big goodbye party open to all, so come by and enjoy good memories and have a laugh.”

Owner Jason Crew will be moving on to another venture, according to Kentwell. He has no plans to open a new restaurant in the near future.

We’ve been a big fan of their cozy fireplace during the winter months, and loved munching on their poutine. When we sampled their version of the Québec speciality back in 2013, we found it to be “one of the more authentic (despite being found in an Australian pub) you can get. The brown gravy was a bit sweet, but peppery, and the fresh curds added a nice hit of saltiness and creaminess. The plate of fries tasted flat out ridgy-didge and left you full as a centipede’s sock drawer.

On Thursday night, Happy Hour will take place all night, and you can pay $40 for an all-you-can-drink from 7pm-11pm. The pub will feature Founders KBS on tap.

Good on ya, Sheep Station. We’ll miss celebrating Australia Day with you.
