A New Irish Pub & Another Storefront Under Construction On 5th Avenue
43 5th Ave under construction

Last month we took a look at some of the comings and goings on 5th Avenue between Bergen and Dean Streets, and now there’s a bit more information on the former O’Connor’s, plus some movement in the other half of a space that’s been vacant for about a year.

In January, the new women’s clothing and accessories store La Belle Boutique opened in half of what used to be La Vedette, which closed last year and moved its stock into its sister space, The Gentlemen’s Shop. The other half is now under construction, with a new Department of Buildings permit in the window, which just notes they are doing a storefront renovation there. Anyone hear what might be going into this space?

O'Connor's under construction

A couple doors down, the construction fencing is gone from the old O’Connor’s pub revealing a very handsome facade (remember the old brick front?) for a new, as-yet-unnamed Irish pub.

The Brooklyn Daily Eagle got a look inside, where the former one-story building has been turned into two by the new owners, the McMahon brothers, who happen to be in the construction business. Sounds like they’re fancying up the former dive bar, making it “a place you can bring your mother, your grandmother and the kids,” said Michael McMahon.

They told the paper that they hope to open the new bar by St. Patrick’s Day, which is on Monday, March 17.
