8 Totally Platonic Valentine’s Day Events In Park Slope

This Valentine’s Day, whether you’re looking for something more than a nice dinner for you and your date, or you’d prefer to play up the glory of being single, there’s plenty to do in our area:

Dinner & a Movie: The Lady Eve
When: Friday, February 14, 6:30pm & 8:45pm
Where: BAM Rose Cinemas, 30 Lafayette Ave
What: See the Preston Sturges screwball comedy that pits Barbara Stanwyck’s con artist character against the Pike Ale beer heir played by Henry Fonda, and enjoy a special menu at the BAMcafe, which features items including a lobster bisque, a spice-crusted salmon, and a warm chocolate cake. Or, just see the movie, it’s a classic.
How much: $69 per person ($13 each for just the film)

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
When: Friday, February 14, 7pm
Where: Postmark Cafe, 326 6th Street
What: Join Love146 for a viewing of the Michel Gondry film. The cover includes free popcorn — beer, wine, and treats will be available for a donation, and all proceeds go to the non-profit organization.
How much: $10

New Brew Sings Anti-Love Duets
When: Friday, February 14, 8pm
Where: Barbes, 367 9th Street
What: Singers from Opera On Tap will be singing duets about smoking and suicide and indecipherable languages and hitting dogs with babies. You know, songs to accompany a painful martyrdom. If songs about love somehow slip in there too, they promise to be drunk and surly about them.
How much: $10 suggested donation

The Rejection Show Valentine’s Day Heartbreak Haven
When: Friday, February 14, 8:30pm (doors 8pm)
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: It’s the Super Bowl of Rejection Shows, celebrating Valentine’s Day with an evening of its best breakup, heartbreak, and love related performances/stories from shows past, present, and future, hosted by Jon Friedman and featuring Lizz Winstead, Eliot Glazer, Ophira Eisenberg, and many more terrific comedians.
How much: $10 in advance, $12 at the door

Unlovable: A Smiths & Morrissey Valentine’s Day
When: Friday, February 14, 9pm (doors 8pm)
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Because heaven knows you’re miserable now, head to the third annual event from The Sons & Heirs, who host a passionate evening of the songs that matter most on Valentine’s Day. Joining the party are Dave Hill, Rob Sheffield, and DJ Ceremony.
How much: $12 in advance, $15 at the door

Pork Slope After Dark
When: Friday, February 14, 9pm-2am
Where: Pork Slope, 247 5th Avenue
What: Ladies, why not let your local bar buy you a drink this Valentine’s Day? The first one is on Pork Slope tonight, so swing by, enjoy the DJs, maybe grab a porky melt, and see if there’s anyone to meat meet.
How much: No cover

Love Bites: The Power Ballads Sing-Along
When: Friday, February 14, 10pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: The whole audience gets to sing along in this alternative to karaoke. The Valentine’s Day version will feature an air guitar competition, a power ballads costume contest, theme drinks like the Eternal Flame and More Than Words, free heart-shaped candy, and prizes including tickets to The Awesome 80’s Prom at Webster Hall and other events.
How much: $8, available in advance

Head On: Love vs. Lust
When: Friday, February 14, 11pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: The monthly dance party that pits two themes and two DJs against one another aims to find out which is superior, love or lust. Resident DJs Brian Blackout and Spoolwork are combing through their records to find the cheesiest, sappiest love songs, and the sweatiest, stickiest songs about lust, and they’ll go head to head until the audience picks a winner by going nuts on the dancefloor.
