77-Year-Old Rescued By Lifeguards At Coney Island Beach

Coney Island lifeguards pulled Igor Fried, 77, out of the water when the saw him slump over face down in the waves at West 24th Street and the beach this afternoon. Lifeguard Dimitri spotted the man in distress and ran in to pull him out with help from his partner Mike and Ali in section 5 of the beach. Lt. Mora Maloney performed CPR and got him breathing with a pulse and he was rushed to Coney Island Hospital in critical condition,

Coney Island Beach lifeguards hurried into the water to rescue a 77-year-old man, who collapsed in the waves this past Sunday.

Officials and witnesses told the Daily News that the victim, Igor Fried, was face down in shallow water near West 24th Street at around 1:30 p.m. Other sources said to the Daily News that he may have suffered a heart attack.

The lifeguards immediately pulled Fried out of the water. Seeing that he was unconscious, the began to perform CPR. After finding a pulse, Fried was taken to Coney Island Hospital for treatment for cardiac arrest.

According to the Daily News, Fried’s condition is currently unknown.
