6 Recent Neighborhood Crimes Still Under Investigation

Over the last few months, we’ve reported a series of different crime events in order to alert the public of incidents which have take place in our neighborhood. And while these reports can be disturbing, we do so with the hope that police may receive tips from readers who can help solve these crimes.

A witness who tipped off Crimestoppers at the end of April led to the arrest of Clarence Jones, who police say is responsible for at least five incidents involving attacks on elderly women in Park Slope and Kensington. Those incidents spanned over two months between January 20 – March 26, 2016.

An NYPD spokesperson confirmed that all the incidents below are still under investigation. We’ve provided a basic summary, with the original crime article reported should you want more detailed information.

Incident: A 16-year-old victim was stalked on the subway.
Date and Time: Friday, April 15 at approximately 9am
Where: G train at the 4th Avenue-9th Street station
Details: Police are searching for a man they say has been involved in at least five instances of stalking a 16-year-old girl throughout the months of February, March, and April. This incident happened on the Queens-bound G train at the 4th Avenue-9th Street station. No injuries took place. Read more about the incident.

Incident: A 32-year old transgender individual was a victim of a brutal attack by at least three suspects.
Date and Time: Friday, May 13 at approximately 11:30am
Where: 7th Avenue near 8th Street
Details: Cops say the victim was walking north on 8th Street when he made eye contact with a group of five men walking in the opposite direction. One of the suspects shouted, “What are you looking at, you white faggot?” and the victim was then punched repeatedly in the head and face, according to the police. At least three of the five suspects were engaged in the violent act. Read more about the incident.

Incident: A Queens man sustained a 2-inch deep wound in his stomach after being stabbed and robbed of his cell phone while riding the N train.
Date and Time: Friday, May 20 at approximately 11:30am
Where: N train at Atlantic Avenue-Barclays station
Details: According to victim Efrain Guaman, after the suspect stabbed him and fled with his phone, he was able to pull the emergency lever on the subway train to keep it in the station. “It took 30 minutes for emergency to come. I couldn’t think of anything. I just felt the pain,” he said. Read more about the incident.

Incident: A green taxi struck Tanya Kinne and Chris Kovacs and then sped off after the hit and run.
Date and Time: Saturday, May 21 at approximately 11:55pm
Where: Intersection of 3rd Avenue and 7th Street in Gowanus
Details: “We’re proud people, and we didn’t want to ask for help. But a friend of ours encouraged us,” said Kovacs. The couple has set up a gofundme page to assist with bills and in-home physical therapy — which they estimate will be a two-month process. Kovacs and Kinne are hoping to raise $25,000. Incident: A 21-year-old woman escaped from an attempted rape. The suspect pursued her, caught up to victim, “grabbed her from behind, and groped her over her clothes.”
Date and Time: Sunday May 22 at approximately 3:30am
Where: Near 7th Avenue and 2nd Street
Details: The man held her to the ground and attempted to rip off her clothes, however the victim fought off the suspect. The suspect fled west on 2nd Street, and police say he drove off in an Acura. A license plate and color of the car is not yet available. Read more about the incident.

air bag vandalism

Incident: Five Honda owners awoke to punched out door locks and steering wheels which had been torn open for their airbags.
Date and Time: Tuesday, June 7 at some point in the middle of the night.
Where: 18th Street between 7th and 10th Avenues.
Details: The five cars broken into were all Hondas, although they did not have the type of airbags which were recently recalled. Read more about the incident.
