14 Days To Fund Beer Table’s Beer Bicycle

Beer Table, a South Slope  joint specializing in rare and unusual brews, has a few goals for the immediate future, and  they’re hoping for some neighborhood help to make it happen.

The mission: an air-conditioner and a “beer bicycle.”

The Air Conditioner

“We’ve always thought of Beer Table…as really more of a winter space than a summer one, because we’ve never been able to effectively cool it off,” owners Justin and Tricia Philips write on Smallknot (Smallknot — brand new and itself Brooklyn-based — wants to be to neighborhood businesses what Kickstarter is to people with art projects). Some of the $6,000 they’re aiming for will go toward a better air-conditioning system — leading, they hope, to better (and more comfortable) business year-round.

But that’s only part one. The couple also run Beer Table Pantry, a tiny Grand Central Terminal outpost that sells specialty beer and packaged goods to go. And that’s where part two comes in:

The Bicycle

“We’re trying really hard to expand beyond our walk-in traffic and start doing more deliveries and beer catering for office parties and other functions in midtown,” they explain. “So we came up with kind of a crazy idea: build a bicycle with a built in draft system that can do just that. Yeah, that’s right, a bicycle that distributes beer. Imagine the possibilities!”

Imagine indeed.

In exchange for your investment, you get various hoppy rewards, depending on your level of financial commitment to the cause: a $25 gift gets you a free flight of 8oz drinks at Beer Table or 2 free growler fills at Beer Table Pantry; $250 gets you a Beer Table dinner for 8 and unlimited draft beer; $600 gets you a Beer Table kegger at your home or office. (There options at other intervals, too.)

Other local businesses have had success with Smallknot, which is still just getting off the ground — of the inaugural projects, Park Slope’s Kos Kaffe, just met their $4,500 goal, and Egg, in Williamsburg, raised $10,000 for new tables and chairs.

So far, Beer Table’s at $2,900 — just under halfway there — with two weeks to go. On board? Help them cool off and pedal on by giving here.
